Step 1: Installing Drum and Toner Assembly

Hardware Drum Unit vs. Toner Cartridge Separation

Unlike some brands that combine toner and photosensitive drums into a single unit, Brother lasers use a two-piece modular assembly:
1. Open the front cover and pull out the drum unit.
2. Remove the orange protective shipping cover from the starter toner cartridge.
3. Snap the toner cartridge firmly into the drum unit until the green lock lever lifts with an audible click.
4. Gently slide the green corona wire tab back and forth across the drum 3 times, returning it to the home position (▲) before re-inserting the drum into the printer.

Step 2: Connecting to Wi-Fi via LCD Control Panel

  • Models with 1-Line LCD (e.g. HL-L2350DW, HL-L2370DW):
    • Press the ▲ or ▼ key to navigate to Network and press OK.
    • Select WLAN and press OK.
    • Select Setup Wizard and press OK.
    • When "WLAN Enable?" appears, press ▲ (Yes).
    • Select your 2.4GHz network SSID from the search list, enter your Wi-Fi password using arrow keys, and press OK.
  • Models with Color Touchscreen (e.g. MFC-L2750DW, MFC-L3770CDW):
    • Tap Settings > All Settings > Network > WLAN > Setup Wizard.
    • Select your network name and enter your password.

Step 3: Installing the Brother Software Suite

Visit support.brother.com, select your country, enter your model, and download the Full Driver & Software Package. This includes:

  • Brother Generic & Enhanced PCL Drivers
  • Brother iPrint&Scan: Modern app for printing and scanning from desktop and mobile
  • ControlCenter4: Legacy desktop utility for custom one-touch physical button workflow automation
  • Status Monitor: Real-time toner level and paper jam notification tray icon

Common Brother Troubleshooting Fixes

  • "Replace Toner" Warning After Installing New Cartridge: If the printer does not recognize a newly installed toner, open the front door, press and hold the Back and Go buttons simultaneously, release, and press Back immediately. The reset menu will appear—select your toner type (Standard or High Yield) and choose Reset.
  • "Drum End Soon" or "Replace Drum": When replacing the drum unit, with the front cover open, press and hold the OK button for 2 seconds until "Reset Drum?" appears, then press the Up arrow or 1 to reset the counter to zero.

Frequently Asked Questions

To comply with energy regulations, Brother printers enter Deep Sleep after periods of inactivity. If network packets fail to wake it, disable IPv6 in the printer's network settings or assign a static IPv4 address to maintain uninterrupted ARP table communication.
Yes. Brother iPrint&Scan can communicate directly over the local network via IP without registering a traditional Windows or Mac print driver spooler.
